Amigo Watch: Ex-Bills RB Thurman Thomas is giving Miami just what they had in mind when they signed him as a free agent. In last Sunday night's victory over the Ravens, Thomas handled the ball six times (3 carries for 25 yards, 3 receptions for 31), all on third down. He was responsible for five first down conversions in those six handles. Overall, Thurman is 6-34-5.7 rushing and 7-55-7.9 receiving.
Meanwhile, the other two Amigos, DE Bruce Smith and WR Andre Reed, suffered through the Redskins' home loss to the Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Bruce was credited with two assisted tackles against Dallas and no sacks. He has 11 total tackles and 1 1/2 sacks so far. Andre made his Redskins debut and caught one pass for 9 yards.
Safety Kurt Schulz, now with Detroit, continues to have the most impact of all the recently departed Bills. Schulz leads the Lions with two interceptions. He has 21 tackles in three games so far.
CB Thomas Smith has six tackles and no assists with Chicago. Sam Gash has played sparingly with Baltimore. LB Gabe Northern was inactive in Minnesota's victory over New England.
Kickoff Blues: The Bills' kickoff coverage is the worst in the NFL by far. They've yielded an average of 35.7 per return and one of the four scoring returns so far in the league. Next come Washington (30.8) and Tampa Bay (29.3). It's a sweep for Buffalo in kickoff inefficiency: The Bills' own 17.7 average on kickoff returns is worst in the league.
