For several years, Buffalo teachers have endured a complete betrayal by the elected School Board and its senior staff. The courts have verified the legality of the contract that this and previous boards rejected, but the teachers still do not have their money from that contract.
The current board showed no honest attempt to negotiate a new contract before school convened. It appears that the Taylor Law is a fortress that unfairly permits the School Board to justify its immoral behavior. The solution may be to return to an appointed blue-ribbon School Board, which can face the issues instead of posturing for votes.
