The Canisius men's cross country team placed fourth out of 26 teams at the National All-Catholic Invitational at South Bend, Ind. Pat Leone was the best Griffins' finisher as he placed ninth. Chad Bader was 11th.

The Canisius women finished 13th of 25 teams. Rebecca Rice led the team with a 34th-place finish.

At London, Ont., the University at Buffalo's men's and women's teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Western Ontario Invitational. UB's top men's finisher was Tony David, who finished eighth. Danielle Morrell led the UB women, finishing 14th.

MEN'S SOCCER: Mike Rudney (Akron), Jimy Rosemberg, and Mike Abrams scored for Buffalo State in a 3-1 win over D'Youville. . . . Jordan McMullen scored for Niagara in a 2-1 loss to Cleveland State.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Darrah Graziano got the only UB goal in a 2-1 loss to Ohio.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Lisa Herrscher (Clarence) had 10 assists and Jessie Miller (Frontier) had six kills, but Buffalo State lost to Geneseo, 15-9, 15-8, 15-6. In the second game, Krista Wierzbicki (Maryvale) had four kills and 12 assists in a 15-4, 15-6, 15-14 loss to Brockport. . . . Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda) had a match-high 18 digs as UB was swept by visiting Central Michigan. . . . Nicole Lucie (Lancaster) had five kills in Canisius' loss to Villanova, 15-12, 15-1, 15-2.

TENNIS: UB's Fery Kasiman defeated Marist's Mike Souter, 6-2, 6-0, in the Northeast Intercollegiate Championships at Brown University.
