GROUP DIDN'T RESCIND ITS BACKING FOR QUINN

The headline on a Sept. 13 political column was very misleading. The Buffalo AFL-CIO did not drop its backing for John Fee. Rep. Jack Quinn did not "win" anything, nor did Fee "lose" anything. The headline would have people believe that the Buffalo AFL-CIO Council rescinded its support for Fee, which is not true.

The column correctly pointed out that our local council lacks the authority to make a formal endorsement, and only our state AFL-CIO can do that. Among the unions in the Buffalo AFL-CIO, there is great support for Fee, as well as for his opponent. The fact that the state body ignored our recommendation does not change the fact that our local organization did make the recommendation of Fee, and did not rescind it.
