Tribune Co. plans to spend more than $100 million over the next few years to expand its Chicago Tribune printing and distribution facility.

Under the project, which the company announced Thursday, the 700,000-square-foot Freedom Center facility will be expanded by more than 120,000 square feet.

In a second phase, a 115,000-square-foot structure will be built opposite Freedom Center for packaging the Chicago Tribune's more than 1 million Sunday copies each week. That will replace a smaller, leased facility elsewhere in the city.
