Eugene M. Ciszek, 62, who retired in 1994 as a detective for the Niagara Falls Police Department, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2000) in his home after a sudden illness.
He was born in Niagara Falls and attended Niagara Street Elementary School and Charles B. Gaskill Junior High School. He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.
He worked at Broda Machine Co. from 1959 to 1964. He then became a police officer for the city in 1964, working as a patrolman in the 1960s and 1970s on Third Street, Falls Street and Highland Avenue. He became a detective in the Juvenile Aid Division in 1980 and stayed there until he retired.
A member of the Niagara Falls Police Club, Ciszek received numerous commendation letters. In addition, he received the Levy Brothers and Meritorious Service awards.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Ciszek enjoyed rose gardening and golfing.
His wife, Patricia Gross Ciszek, died in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, John F. of Wilson and Daniel M.; a sister, Helen Bogal; a brother, Frank of Grand Island; and three grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, after prayers at 9:15 in Labuda Funeral Home, 356 Portage Road.
