DEBORAH KLEIN, GIRL SCOUT LEADER

Deborah Klein of Hamburg, who was active with Girl Scouts, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2000) of cancer while under Hospice care. She was 46.

The former Debbie Rice grew up on Buffalo's West Side and had lived in Hamburg for the past 15 years.

Mrs. Klein was a child care worker for many years, most recently at Churchill Day Care Center. She was a member of Hamburg United Methodist Church and a past president and vice president of United Methodist Women.

She and her husband, David, served as co-presidents of Hummers, a social group at the church, and she also served on various other church committees.

For the past 15 years, Mrs. Klein served as a leader with several Girl Scout troops. Her Girl Scout involvement took her to the Erie County Fair, where she proudly gave exposure to what troop members do in their communities.

Besides her husband, survivors include three daughters, Melissa Balester, Kimberly and Rebecca, all of Hamburg; a brother, Donald Rice of South Carolina; and two sisters, Shirley Caple of Cheektowaga and Lynn Murphy.

Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in Loomis, Offers and Loomis Funeral Home, 207 Main St., Hamburg, followed by services at 10:30 in Hamburg United Methodist Church, 116 Union St. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Hamburg.
