The Evans Town Board on Wednesday night awarded contracts totaling $101,052 for construction of an addition to the town's Water Department building on Delameter Road.
The general construction contract was awarded to Ahrens & Wells, at a cost not to exceed $78,447. The electrical contract -- $12,660 -- and the contract for heating, ventilation and air conditioning -- $9,945 -- were awarded to F.A. Simons & Sons.
Councilman Gifford Swyers said the money for the project has been budgeted for "two to three years." The work is being done to alleviate cramped office space in the building.
In other business, the board awarded a contract to Mollnar Construction Co. of Angola for the installation of a new septic system for the Water Department building. Mollnar was the low bidder at $15,520.
The board also:

Joined in a resolution of the Association of Erie County Governments, asking the county executive and the County Legislature to begin appropriating funding in the 2001 budget to support the implementation of municipal comprehensive master plans.
Joined with the association in requesting that Erie County Executive Joel A. Giambra and the County Legislature give each community $500,000 of the tobacco settlement proceeds, to be used at the discretion of each community. The official request points out that many of the smallest communities also are the poorest.
