The News recently published an Associated Press article, "China routs monks." I was bothered by a statement about the Dalai Lama "fleeing to India 41 years ago amid a failed uprising." Some people might conclude that the Dalai Lama was just another troublemaker, unless they knew that Communist China had invaded the peaceful, sovereign nation of Tibet 50 years ago and killed one-seventh of the population. It has been replacing Tibetan citizens with Chinese nationals ever since.
The excuse was that China wanted to protect its "back door," so it moved its army into a neighboring country and took over. This scenario should be remembered when evaluating present-day Chinese threats against Taiwan.
