STEVENSON RE-ELECTED CHAIR OF DEMOCRATS

SALAMANCA Richard O. Stevenson of Hinsdale has been re-elected chairman of the Cattaraugus County Democratic Committee for another two years.

Meeting in Salamanca this week to reorganize, the Democrats also elected former Town of South Valley Supervisor Anthony J. Foti as vice chairman. He succeeds Robert Quinlan of Salamanca, who did not seek re-election.

Karen Byrne of Gowanda was re-elected secretary.

Jeanne Giambrone of Napoli was chosen to serve as treasurer, succeeding Rosemary Ryan of Allegany, who resigned for health reasons after serving for 11 years.

Named to serve as state committeemen were Byrne, County Legislator Elliott Ellis Jr. of New Albion and former County Legislator Charlotte McLaughlin of Olean.

Committeemen also endorsed Stevenson for reappointment to a four-year term as election commissioner.

Also, the Salamanca City Democratic Committee met and re-elected former County Legislator Kenneth "Bucky" McClune chairman. James Mongillo was elected vice chairman; Ronald Wogick, secretary; and Pat Cleveland, treasurer.

On Sept. 27, the Olean City Democratic Committee will meet to reorganize.

While endorsing candidates for November elections, county Democrats voted to back Hillary Rodham Clinton for U.S. Senate; Kisun Peters of Salamanca for Congress; Fredonia Mayor Frank Pagano for the 149th Assembly District; and former County Legislator Karen Blake of Perrysburg for the 147th Assembly District.
