A memorial service for Mary Jane Barstow Ferguson, an attorney with the law firm of Phillips, Lytle, Hitchcock, Blaine & Huber since 1983, will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 in the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 225 Como Park Boulevard, Cheektowaga.
A specialist in health care law who had provided legal services for Hospice Buffalo, Barstow Ferguson died unexpectedly Sept. 4, 2000, in her Orchard Park home. She was 44.
She was a former health law columnist for Business First.
Born Mary Jane Barstow in Potsdam, she was a 1974 graduate of Potsdam Senior High School, where she was a member of the Honor Society and salutatorian of her class.
She was a 1978 summa cum laude graduate of Kirkland College, now part of Hamilton College, and a 1981 graduate of Cornell University School of Law.
She was an attorney with the law firm of Gardner, Carton & Douglas in Chicago before joining Phillips Lytle, where she was a special counsel for the practice of health care law.
She enjoyed running, cycling, skiing and horseback riding.
Survivors include her parents, Roy and Patricia Lantry Barstow of Potsdam; a sister, Anne B. Huttel of Madrid, N.Y.; and two brothers, Peter C. Barstow of Potsdam and John M. Barstow of Hannawa Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Sept. 9 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Potsdam. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Potsdam.
