David R. Leamy, 81, a retired American Airlines district sales manager, died Sunday (Sept. 17, 2000) in Sisters Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A native of Massachusetts, Leamy came to Buffalo in 1946 as an aircraft mechanic for American Airlines. Four years later, he was named a sales representative and for the next 20 years worked with many area travel agents and businesses.

In 1981, he was appointed district sales manager for the airline's Western New York area, a position he held until his retirement in 1992.

Leamy served with the U.S. Army Air Forces in the Caribbean from 1942 to 1946.

He was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Snyder and past president of the Vanguards, a retirees organization. His other interests included sports, travel, reading and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Marie J. Schroeder, and a brother, Norman of Dallas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Christ the King Church, 30 Lamarck Drive.
