Jan Gangelhoff, the former tutor who blew the whistle on the academic fraud scandal in the Minnesota basketball program will be arraigned next Monday on one count of felony fraud. She was charged Friday for doing course work for a student-athlete in 1995 so that he could become eligible to play basketball. Local news organizations, quoting unidentified sources, have reported that Gangelhoff has agreed to plead guilty and receive no prison time in exchange for testimony against former Gophers basketball coach Clem Haskins and Alonzo Newby, former academic counselor for the team.

The New York Knicks are still pursuing Los Angeles Lakers free agent forward Glen Rice. The fact Rice has yet to sign Chicago's one-year, $8 million contract is a clear indication his agent, David Falk, has not yet exhausted all trade possibilities. The Lakers are interested in obtaining a power forward and are hoping to do so by including Rice in a sign-and-trade. They turned down a deal for Chris Dudley and do not seem excited by anything on the Knick roster, including Patrick Ewing.

Patrick R. Bishop, 21, is accused of yelling "I have a gun," at soccer referee Craig Murph, who halted the junior varsity game between Thomas Worthington High and Westerville North High of Ohio with 12 minutes left and the score tied 1-1. "He'd been saying things throughout the game," said Murph, a Columbus steelworker who has officiated soccer for 15 years. "I felt threatened, so I terminated the game."
