An Allegany County school superintendent will be the new superintendent for the Cleveland Hill School District.
Bruce E. Inglis, who currently holds the same job for Cuba-Rushford Central Schools, begins duties at Cleveland Hill on Nov. 1.
The 20-year educator will replace Laura Sherwood, who resigned in June after 2 1/2 years in the job to take over as superintendent in Elmira.
Inglis is the sixth superintendent, either temporary or permanent, to serve at Cleveland Hill in the last six years.
"Mr. Inglis has made mention that he feels that he's going to be around for a while," said board President Robert Polino. "He has no ambition to move on."
John Thompson, who is now serving as interim superintendent, took over after Sherwood resigned the position. According to officials, Thompson was not a candidate for the permanent post.
Polino said 17 qualified candidates applied for the position. The field was narrowed to six and then to two finalists. The board and a community search committee interviewed the candidates.
In addition to Inglis' years of teaching and administration, Polino said, he also has extensive experience with school-renovation projects. Cleveland Hill is just beginning the major construction phase of its $28.5 million capital plan.
"It's going to be quite a challenge," Polino said, ". . . but I'm sure he's up to it."
