The Cheektowaga Parks, Recreation and Youth Services Department will mark the nation's "Family Health and Fitness Day USA" Saturday with a varied schedule of activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Stiglmeier Park.
The day's events -- in-line skating, dances, basketball, nature walks and rock climbing -- are aimed at encouraging people to engage in regular moderate physical activity, said Kenneth J. Kopacz, the town's recreation director.
'Curious Creatures' in Elma Library
Elma Public Library will offer a "Curious Creatures" program series this fall on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 for children in kindergarten through second grade.
The first program in the series, "What A Wombat," will be held Sept. 27. No registration is necessary.
Elma Marilla Bloodmobile planned
The Elma Marilla Bloodmobile will be in Jamison Fire Hall from 1:30 to 6:30p.m. Wednesday.

Latin America Solidarity meets tonight
The Latin America Solidarity Committee will hold its September coffeehouse this evening to address the local organizing movement against a "new School of the Americas."
The School of the Americas, once located in the former Panama Canal Zone, was where the United States trained Latin American soldiers.
The committee, a task force of the Western New York Peace Center, will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Network of Religious Communities office at 1272 Delaware Ave.
