BILL REPORT CARD - WEEK 3

Bills 14, Jets 27

RUNNING GAME

BILLS (C-): Penalties wiped out some good runs. Bryson ran hard, got 12 carries, looked decent. Antowain got five carries. It seems the torch has been passed.

JETS (C-): Once again, Martin struggled vs. Bills 'D.' But Bills turnovers allowed Jets to keep it on ground and eat clock.

PASSING GAME

BILLS (C): Mistakes kept stalling drives. Riemersma injury hurt. But Rob's throws were on target. Pass protection was improved.

JETS (B): Vinny, Chrebet, Ward were held almost totally in check. All Jets needed was one big play. They got it on the Hail Mary.

RUN DEFENSE

BILLS (B ): Should have been good enough to win. Held Jets to just 2.5 yards a carry. Nose tackles did good job on Mawae. Cowart was all over field.

JETS (B): Strong linebacking corps almost never makes mistakes. Gaps were filled. Longest run allowed was 8 yards by Bryson.

PASS DEFENSE

BILLS (C): A good coverage day was foiled at end of half. No one could get a hand on Hail Mary. Pass rush did not put much heat on Vinny.

JETS (B-): Blown coverage on TD to McDaniel.

SPECIAL TEAMS

BILLS (F): Not enough space to list all the problems. Worst special teams game since you-know-when. Maybe Bills should just squib kick it every time.

JETS (A): Williams scores on kickoff. Hall kicks 51-yarder. Burton blocks field goal. Fumble recoveries on punts. And this unit was supposed to be struggling?

COACHING

BILLS (F): Mistakes too numerous to count. Coverage and return units still not ready for regular season. Penalties short-circuit offensive efficiency.

JETS (B): Best thing Jets did was play a clean game. One turnover. Three penalties. Coleman pass, fourth-and-goal run worked perfectly. Bring on Keyshawn.
