The final regular season meetings between the LaSalle and Niagara Falls boys and girls basketball teams have been moved to the Niagara Falls Convention and Civic Center.
The girls teams will meet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:15 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
Tickets cost $2 and are available at both schools as well as Niagara Falls' Community Education Center and the Board of Education Administrative Building. Seating will be general admission.
A large crowd is expected for the final scheduled meetings between the Explorers of LaSalle and the Power Cats of Niagara Falls High School, which will be known as the "old" Niagara Falls High School after this academic year. The two high schools are being closed after this season and the new Niagara Falls High School will open next fall. The boys game was originally scheduled to be played at LaSalle; the girls game was scheduled at Niagara Falls.
"These games were too big to hold in either of the school home sites," said Niagara Falls Schools Superintendent Carmen A. Granto. "We are extremely grateful to Roger Trevino and Niagara Falls Redevelopment (who are helping host the games and sponsoring the commemorative ticket) for the role they are playing in allowing this major community event to be held where it should be.
"The venue adds to the big-game atmosphere and will allow for a fitting tribute to the teams as well as accommodate the expected fan interest."
An overflow crowd of 3,500 attended the final football game between the schools, won by LaSalle, 3-0, at Joseph K. Rowe field.
It is very likely the boys teams will meet in the Niagara Frontier League championship on Feb. 18. It is also possible the teams could meet in Sectional play. The girls tournament begins Feb. 22; the boys tournament begins Feb. 23.
