MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE, SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRLS

NIAGARA FALLS Charges of rape and sexual abuse were lodged Sunday night against a man who police said had taken two young girls into his home after one complained of being abused by a parent.

James R. Polbum, 31, of Stephenson Avenue was arrested at 7:30 p.m. by Detective Celestine Booze. He was charged with third-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to police reports, Polbum had complained of being robbed of a strobe light and party fogger after temporarily housing the two juvenile girls.

He told police that both had slept with him in the bedroom of his rooming house after he had taken them in. He was later arrested and was ordered held without bail pending a Niagara Falls City Court hearing.
