John G. Murtaugh, 65, a professor of geology at Buffalo State College, died Jan. 22, 2000, in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after an eight-month illness.
Born in Floral Park, he held a doctorate from Ohio State University and served with the Army in Japan.
He had a 40-year career as a geologist and was expert in impact structures and igneous and metamorphic petrology.
He came to the Buffalo area 27 years ago.
Survivors include his mother, Jane.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Margaret Grant Lounge, Room 114, Caudell Hall, Buffalo State College.
