A DO-GOODER

Kevin Helfer has finally landed.

Helfer, who gave up his Common Council seat to run unsuccessfully for city comptroller, is back in government -- this time at County Hall.

After mulling over his options, which included both private and public sector offers, he joined County Executive Joel Giambra's team as director of contract compliance.

"I love government," he said. "I'm one of those guys who thinks government can do a lot of good."

Off Main Street is written by Phil Fairbanks with contributions from Darryl Campagna, Tom Dolan, Barbara O'Brien and Charity Vogel.
