A pair of Buffalo accounting firms -- Brock, Schechter & Polakoff and Levin & Co. -- have merged to form a new firm that plans to move into a new downtown office sometime this summer.
The combined firm, which will operate under the BS&P name, will have a staff of 50 people, including 33 professionals and certified public accountants.
Hyman B. Polakoff, a BS&P partner, said the merger with Levin & Co. will strengthen his company's core tax and accounting business and also enhance its professional consulting and support services.
"In the long run, I think it allows us to serve our clients better," said Lawrence H. Levin, who co-founded Levin & Co. in 1994. "Hy and I have said for years that we ought to get together."
"At our size, we were at a very awkward stage," said Levin, whose firm has 15 employees, including about 10 professionals. "We had some large clients and sometimes it was hard to serve them."
BS&P, which has its offices at 135 Delaware Ave., and Levin & Co., which is located at 465 Main St., will continue to operate out of their current locations for the next six months or so. After that, however, the firm plans to combine their operations in a single location, somewhere in downtown Buffalo. BS&P also has an office in Toronto.
