A man suspected of robbing a bank Friday afternoon in Delevan was taken into custody at a tavern, State Police and Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputies said.

The robbery, which occurred at the M & T Bank branch in the Delevan Plaza on Route 16, was reported at about 3:40 p.m., authorities said. The robber was said to be making threats and demanding money.

The robber fled after he was given an undisclosed amount of cash, and troopers, deputies and state Environmental Conservation Police officers began searching the area.

Police were told that a man fitting the description was seen entering Hardy's Tavern on Route 16.

Hugh R. Jackson, 44, whose last known address was on Race Street, Salamanca, was taken into custody inside.

Some of the stolen money was on him and some was found in a nearby apartment, authorities said.

An investigation, which includes the FBI, continues.
