Ray Marks, a radio newsman with 34 years experience, is the first casualty of the format switch of WGR-AM to an all-sports format. Marks, the long-time news director at WGR, turned down an offer to move to WBEN-AM 930, as a late afternoon anchor. Marks, 55, said he turned it down for "family and personal reasons."

Marks did his final newscast this morning, including a farewell at 9 a.m.

Both stations are owned by Entercom Communications Corp. of Philadelphia, which recently took over ownership and decided to make WBEN a news/talk format. Entercom, sources say, is gutting the WGR news staff, which numbers about seven, and those remaining will move to WBEN.

Kevin Keenan, a morning personality at WBEN, will become the station's news director, sources say. WBEN will be the only full-time AM news operation in town. Entercom will meet with WGR employees today to decide who remains, and who will move to WBEN.
