A Warren County couple who ran a sled-dog tour business faces 24 animal abuse charges, including five felonies, for allegedly letting five puppies freeze to death outside their home.
The puppies, ranging in age from 6 to 16 weeks, were found dead over the weekend, some frozen into the snow.
The SPCA of Upstate New York seized 45 other dogs Saturday from the home of Mark and Lisa LaBrecque.,
Though huskies and malamutes are breeds that are used to cold weather, they can't withstand temperatures that dipped to nearly 25 below zero Saturday.
The LaBrecques' lawyer, Gregory V. Canale, called the charges an "overreaction -- the likes of which the SPCA is becoming famous for."
