HIAS is the acronym for "Happiness Is Active Seniors" and the name of one of Cheektowaga's 47 senior citizens clubs.

The club, which has a roster of 210 people, will celebrate its 20th anniversary Feb. 10 with a dinner-dance in the Cheektowaga Senior Center on Broadway, near Union Road, according to Dorie Buss, who is serving her fourth year as president of the group.

She said the club meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays in Infant of Prague Catholic Church, 921 Cleveland Drive. "You don't have to be a Catholic to join," she said, "but you do have to be a resident of Cheektowaga and at least 60 years old."

Average attendance at the weekly meetings is 115, she said. Average age is between 75 and 80, and there are more women than men in the club.. . .
