NIELSEN SHARES STROKE PLAY LEAD

Lonnie Nielsen, club pro at the Crag Burn Golf Club, and Rick Hartmann of the Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, share the lead at 4-under-par 140 halfway through the 47th annual Reebok Golf/PGA Stroke Play Championship at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Nielsen, who won the tournament in 1987, had three birdies and two bogies in his round of 71 while Hartmann posted his second consecutive 70.

Nielsen had considered withdrawing from the tournament. "I've had a bad right knee for some time," he said. "Monday night I twisted my left knee and twisted it again Tuesday.

"One of the players in our threesome had withdrawn and I didn't want to leave the other fellow out their by himself so I decided to try. I made an eagle on the first hole and my knee felt better the rest of the day."
