Former Wilson Central School trustee Kevin R. Cornell faces a jury trial March 20 in Niagara County Court in a drunken-driving incident that killed a 23-year-old bicyclist last June.
Cory J. Bailey of Balmer Road, Porter, was fatally injured while riding his bike on Porter Center Road at night.
Cornell, 46, of Wilson, pleaded innocent to charges of vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, two counts of driving while intoxicated, and speeding. He resigned his School Board post after his arrest.
Police said Cornell was speeding in his sport utility vehicle and was unable to stop or slow down in time to avoid hitting Bailey. Cornell's blood-alcohol level at the time was 0.10 percent, police said.
The trial date was set during a pretrial conference Tuesday. Cornell has until March 6 to accept a plea bargain or go to trial and face the complete indictment of five charges, said Assistant District Attorney Theodore A. Brenner.
Brenner will prosecute the case before Judge Robert Noonan. Buffalo attorney Glenn E. Murray will defend Cornell.
