Adrian Baugh (Traditional) scored 17 points Wednesday night to lead Daemen (15-6 overall, 3-0 league) to a 75-63 win over Houghton in the Northeast Athletic Conference.
Elsewhere in men's basketball, Jeff Williams poured in 21 points and Hassan El Saddique added 18 but Erie Community College (4-15) dropped a 111-78 shootout against Monroe CC.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Rachel Shabazz scored 16 points for Erie Community College (12-6) in a 101-52 loss to Monroe CC. . . . Janelle Tombs had 14 points and six steals to lead Houghton (10-4, 4-0) to a 62-57 victory over Daemen (13-9, 3-1) in a battle for first place in the NAC. Carey Robinson led Daemen with 17 points.
SWIMMING: Both the Buffalo State men and women were victorious against Gannon. Matt Helming (Sweet Home) won the 200 and 500 freestyles and was on the winning 200 medley relay as the men won, 124-101. Janell Eckert (Alden) won the 50 free, 100 breast and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay team as the BSC women prevailed, 115-92. The men are 4-5, the women are 3-7.
NOTEWORTHY: Hilbert will add three varsity sports -- men's volleyball, women's lacrosse and women's cross country -- in the fall of 2000. All three programs will compete at the club level in the 2000-01 school year and become NCAA Division III sports the following school year.
