AUCTION SET -- Three types of auction -- silent, live and Chinese -- will be conducted from 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 6 in St. Christopher Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.

Monsignor Francis G. Weldgen, pastor, said a variety of items, including a bicycle, dinner certificates, sports items, snowblower, television, hockey tickets and breakfast package, will be auctioned. Snacks and beverages will be available. For information, call the rectory at 692-2660. . . .

PROMOTIONS -- Erie County Sheriff Patrick Gallivan has announced five promotions.

Deputy Bradley Roth and Detectives James McMahon and Ron Kenyon have been promoted to sergeant; Detectives James Hatch and Charles Tyrone have been promoted to senior detective. . . .

NEW JOB -- Michael P. Hughes, former director of communications for Erie County and former County Executive Dennis T. Gorski, has been named public affairs manager for Rural/Metro Medical Services, Western New York provider of health and safety solutions.

Hughes will handle public, media and government relations. He succeeds Greg Gill, who was promoted to operations manager. Hughes is a gradate of Canisius College and previously worked in public relations for Assemblyman Brian M. Higgins and for Ingram Micro.

A nationally published free-lance writer, Hughes has written for the Associated Press, The Buffalo News and the Buffalo Sabres and reported for the Daily News in Batavia. . . .
