A clogged sewer and the smell it generated caused officials to cancel classes today at Sweet Home Middle School.
The trap that collects the waste became clogged, and the raw sewage backed up into the school.
"It left a horrendous smell in the building," said Superintendent Gary R. Cooper. "I didn't think that was a pleasant scenario for kids to be in."
The art room drains into that portion of the sewer system, and officials suspect that paint and clay caused the back-up.
Employees were airing out the building and expect the school to be open Thursday.
