Charles J. Monkelbaan, 79, Alden town dog warden for 21 years, died unexpectedly Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) in his home.
Born in Amherst, he served as a medic in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He worked for 30 years as a supervisor at the Erie County Farm in Alden, retiring in 1976.
An avid hunter, he was a charter member of the Millgrove Sportsman Club.
He and the former Edith Lavocat were married in 1943.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Diane Newman and Carol Freeman, both of Alden; a brother, Herman of Arcade; two sisters, Mary Moje of Lockport and Agnes Lindelow of Amherst; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John's Catholic Church, Sandridge Road, Alden.
