A resolution creating two new standing committees is the sole item of business to be decided tonight by the Olean Common Council.

The Council has operated for the past year with only one committee, the Committee of the Whole, which will be reinstated as part of the resolution.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Kathy Searles, who was chosen this month to serve a second one-year term as Council president, proposed establishing a strategic planning committee and a city operations committee. If approved by the Council, all seven aldermen will be members of the three committees.

The meeting begins at 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, following a 6 p.m. meeting of the Committee of the Whole.
