A locker fire sent pupils and staff from Gaskill Middle School outside in 19-degree temperatures for a brief time Monday morning, city fire officials said.
An alarm sounded at 10:16 a.m., and the building was evacuated, Niagara Falls fire officials said. By the time of fire crew's arrival, the fire inside a fourth-floor locker had burned out.
Damage was confined to the locker and its contents and was listed at $200. Students and staff were allowed back into the building auditorium after a search determined the building to be safe, and fire crews cleared the scene by 10:51 a.m.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
