The City of Buffalo will receive the U.S. Conference of Mayors' Outstanding Achievement Award for its successful public-private partnership with American Water Works, which took over operation of the city's water system in 1997 under a private contract.
Mayor Anthony M. Masiello will accept the honor at the organization's 68th annual conference scheduled to begin today in Washington, D.C. The mayor also will be presented with the Best Practices Award for the city's partnership with Fannie Mae, the federal home mortgage agency.
"For my fellow mayors to bestow two awards during the same conference on the City of Buffalo is deeply gratifying," Masiello said. "I am pleased that many of our initiatives, including the two cited by USCOM, have helped place our city firmly on the road to recovery and revitalization."
