The Hardcore Barbell Club of Buffalo finished third at the Mason-Dixon Open weightlifting competition Saturday in Frederick, Md.
All five members of the Buffalo squad finished in the top five in their weight classes: Tim Hoar (fourth, 77 kilograms), Jim Velasquez (fourth, 85 kilo.), John Schweikhard (fourth, 94 kilo.), Terry Wasliewski (fifth, 77 kilo.) and Michael Dizak (fifth, 105 kilo.). The team's third-place finish qualifies it for the 2000 American Open, which is scheduled to be held in Buffalo in December. The event, which featured teams from throughout the Northeast, was won by Pennsylvania's East Coast Gold.
