Walter Mayer, a retired production supervisor at Hewitt Rubber Division of Hewitt-Robins Inc. in Buffalo, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) in a Lakeland, Fla., nursing home after a long illness. He was 82.
Born in Buffalo, he was a World War II Army veteran and had served as a military police officer in the Philippines.
After the war, Mayer went to work for Hewitt-Robins, where he remained for 32 years until his retirement in 1979. That year, he moved to Florida, where he began work in 1985 as a public relations officer for Cypress Gardens, a theme park in Winter Haven. He worked there until June 1995.
Mayer was a past president of the Citrus Woods Mobile Home Park Association in Lakeland and was a charter member of Victory Assembly of God Church, Lakeland. He also attended Evangel Assembly of God Church in Williamsville.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Marion Marsteller; two daughters, Kathryn Goller of Avon Park, Fla., and Marilyn Bradley of New Milford, Conn.; a son, Kurt of Camarillo, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lakeland Funeral Home.
