Gov. George E. Pataki is asking the Clinton administration to act against the recent rise in petroleum prices.
"The recent, rapid rise in prices in this region is inexplicable," Pataki said over the weekend. "Prices began escalating even before the current cold snap we've been experiencing, and those price increases are placing public safety in jeopardy."
Pataki called on President Clinton to investigate the cause of the price rise and to release $300 million in emergency heating funds for low-income residents. The state would be eligible for $40 million.
