'MANIACS' ESCAPE INJURY IN CRASH

Two members of the Jamestown-based pop band 10,000 Maniacs escaped serious injury when their car overturned twice on Interstate 86 late Friday, Chautauqua County sheriff's officers said Sunday.

The driver, Steven Gustafson, 42, of Frewsburg, was eastbound just after 11 p.m. when he lost control on the slippery road. Deputies said the vehicle rolled down an embankment before landing on its wheels.

Gustafson's passenger, Dennis Drew, 42, of Jamestown, was released after treatment in WCA Hospital, Jamestown.

Officers credited the use of seat belts with preventing serious injury. No charges were filed.

Gustafson plays bass guitar, and Drew plays keyboards for the Maniacs.
