Leighton "E.C." Mt. Pleasant, 69, of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation, an iron worker for 35 years before retiring in 1988, died Saturday (Jan. 22, 2000) in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident earlier this month in the Genesee County Town of Elba.
He was born on the reservation and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mt. Pleasant worked for Iron Workers Local 9.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and farming.
Survivors include his wife, the former Janette Printup; four sons, Jeffrey, Russell, Rowland and Nelson; five daughters, Mona Hamby of Niagara Falls and Ellen, Julie, Twila and Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Tuscarora Baptist Church, 2088 Mount Hope Road. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
