Walter H. Lare, 82, of Grand Island, retired Carborundum Corp. personnel manager, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) in Riverwood Health Care Center.
A longtime Grand Island resident, he was born in Hamburg. Lare was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Europe during World War II. He worked for Carborundum Corp. in Niagara Falls for more than 40 years, retiring in 1982. He was personnel manager and negotiated contracts.
Lare was a member of the St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, where he was church organist for over 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hamburg.
He was the widower of Leonara.
Lare is survived by his wife, the former Barbara A. Brill; three daughters, Susanne of Rochester, Sandra J. of Portland, Maine, and Rebecca A. Jordison of Grand Caymen Island; a son, Donald W. of Amherst; a sister, Eleanor Harpster of North Tonawanda; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, 2587 Baseline Road, Grand Island. Burial will be in Prospect Lawn Cemetery, Hamburg.
