A 14-year-old boy is facing murder and sexual assault charges in adult court for allegedly feeding windshield washer fluid to his 13-month-old niece after the toddler scratched him.
Juvenile Court Judge Steven Nash ordered Braxton Bowers to adult court on Friday, saying there may be no hope of rehabilitation "if in fact he is the perpetrator of such fundamentally brutal, vicious acts."
If convicted, Braxton could be sent to a juvenile facility until age 17 and then spend the rest of his life in adult prison.
Braxton, who was baby-sitting Amber and her 4-year-old sister, told police the toddler scratched him while he was changing her diaper, so he mixed the washer fluid with juice in a bottle and gave it to her, said prosecutor Lorinda Lamken. A coroner's investigation also found evidence of sexual assault, she said.
The boy is charged with first-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and two counts ofaggravated criminal sexual assault.
