An author who has been trying to open the FBI files of John Lennon for nearly 20 years said he believes he knows what's in them, and it includes the lyrics to at least one song by the former Beatle, "Working Class Hero."
Also contained in the files are reports stating Lennon donated thousands of dollars to left-wing organizations before his death in 1980, said Jon Wiener, author of the new book, "Gimme Some Truth: The John Lennon FBI Files." The book reproduces 100 pages of FBI files on Lennon that have been released, including some that were entirely blacked out for security reasons. Those not censored include reports on Lennon's immigration fight with the U.S. government, which tried to deport him in the 1970s.
Another document contains a report from a confidential source who told officials Lennon donated $75,000 to a group that planned to disrupt the Republican National Convention in 1972.
Wiener, who filed his first Freedom of Information Act request for FBI files on Lennon just weeks after the musician was murdered, says he still wants the final eight files opened.
