SISTER MARY ALMA, MEMBER OF ORDER FOR 73 YEARS

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Alma, 89, a Sister of Mercy for more than 73 years, will be offered at 7:30 p.m. today in the Mercy Center Chapel, 625 Abbott Road. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.

The former Mary Agnes McGrath, a native of Buffalo, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) in the Mercy Center Infirmary.

She attended St. Monica Elementary School and Mount Mercy Academy. She received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Canisius College.

Sister Alma entered the Sisters of Mercy on May 13, 1926, and professed her final vows on Sept. 2, 1929. She was principal at St. Anthony and St. Brigid schools in Buffalo and taught primary grades at Holy Family, St. Monica, St. William, St. Stephen, St. Anthony, St. Bonaventure, St. Brigid and St. Martin schools in Buffalo, SS. Peter and Paul School in Jamestown and St. Mary of the Angels in Olean.

She also worked in the pediatrics department at Mercy Hospital.
