David R. McCarthy, the superintendent search consultant hired by the Buffalo Board of Education, will hold a public forum Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Waterfront Elementary School, 95 Fourth St.

The forum is free and open to the public, as a chance for residents to tell McCarthy what they want in the city's next superintendent.

McCarthy, who previously recruited Yvonne Minor-Ragan as the principal of Westminster Community School 68, will be in Buffalo from Monday through Wednesday. He will spend the three days meeting with board members and city leaders; members of the clergy and business community; students and faculty; and parent groups.

He has said that he also hopes to talk informally with community leaders.

The board hired McCarthy shortly before former Superintendent James Harris accepted a buyout Jan. 9. McCarthy has a reputation for recruiting nontraditional candidates into educational posts.

The board hopes to have a new superintendent in place by June.

For information about McCarthy's visit to Buffalo, call the school district's community relations office at 851-3600.
