RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS

Restaurant inspections are conducted by the Niagara County Health Department.

Every establishment that serves food is evaluated at least annually by the department. Restaurants rated as high-risk, because they serve children or the elderly, or serve foods that require a lot of processing or are prepared hours or days before serving, are inspected at least twice a year.

There is no rating for exemplary restaurants; only violations are noted.

Many restaurants will have one violation or more at one time or another. They are coded by the health department as: Critical items that could lead to food-borne illness, which must be immediately attended to; or as items relating to sanitation, design, maintenance and cleanliness, which must be corrected by the next regular inspection or as soon as an inspector returns.

LOCKPORT
Brenda's Italian Bakery, 1 East Ave. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (thermometer needed for refrigerator; foods not in original containers need to be labeled for contents).

Casa Montego, 37 Heath St. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Three (covered receptacle needed in ladies' restroom; hole in men's restroom wall; light shield needed in walk-in-cooler downstairs). Inspected Dec. 30.

Delphi Harrison-Buillding No. 10, 200 Upper Mountain Road. Critical violation: One (raw beef patties improperly stored with ready to eat foods in refrigerator, corrected at this time). Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (ketchup and relish stored unprotected, corrected at this time; plastic ware needs to be stored with handles facing up to prevent contamination, corrected at this time). Inspected Dec. 15.

NIAGARA FALLS
Catholic Workers of Niagara Falls, 931 Niagara Ave. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: One (lights not shielded in dry storage area and some foods stacked too high). Inspected Dec. 7.

Community Missions Snack Bar, 1590 Buffalo Ave. No violations. No food prepared here, only single service and packaged snacks. Inspected Dec. 2.

Duncan's Restaurant and Tavern, 2712 Niagara St. No violations. Inspected Dec. 17.

George's Restaurant, 420 Niagara St. No violations. Inspected Dec. 2.

Hollywood 12-Niagara Falls, 720 Builders Way. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: One (ice scoops need to be stored with handles facing up and out of ice). Inspected Jan. 10.

Howard Johnson's Inn, 6505 Niagara Falls Blvd. No violations. Inspected Dec. 3.

J.D.'s Corner Restaurant, 5512 Buffalo Ave. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: One (screen needed in rear fan opening). Inspected Dec. 6.

Joey's Pizzeria, 8707 Buffalo Ave. No violations. Inspected Dec. 13.

Knight's of Columbus Club, 715 Third St. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (thermometer needed in refrigerator at bar in kitchen; some lights in kitchen missing end caps and not properly shielded). Inspected Dec. 7.

NORTH TONAWANDA
Columbia Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, 85 Columbia Drive. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (thermometer needed in walk-in-cooler, corrected at this time; probe type of thermometer needed in kitchen). Inspected Dec. 21.

Cricket Tavern, 1103 Erie Ave. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Three (thermometer needed in refrigerator; spatula and knife are pitted and need to be discarded; cutting boards have deep grooves and need to be replaced). Inspected Dec. 8.

Dom Polski, 576 Oliver St. No violations. Inspected Dec. 21.

Frank's Pizza Shack, 448 Oliver St. Critical violation: One (cold cuts in counter-top refrigerator not stored at safe temperatures, corrected at this time). Sanitation, design, etc.: Five (wiping cloths not stored in sanitizing solution between use; food preparers need hair restraints during food prep; floor tiles missing near walk-in-cooler; floors need to be cleaned around edges; some floor surfaces need easily cleanable surfaces). Inspected Dec 1.
