People Inc. has been awarded a grant of $470,300 from the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to create an eight-person community residence for developmentally disabled people who might otherwise be homeless.
"The project will assist a vulnerable population which currently has severely limited options," said James M. Boles, president and chief executive officer of People Inc. "Many are living with elderly parents, and when a family crisis occurs, they find themselves 'instantly homeless.' "
Boles noted that many programs for the homeless are not able to meet the needs of homeless people with developmental disabilities. In addition to housing, People Inc. will provide case management, health care oversight and opportunities for day training.
