A new pumper will be put into service after it is formally dedicated at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a ceremony to be held at Daniel Anson Hose Company No. 3 on Middle Road.
Fire Chief Michael Edwards said the truck has been in the city since last Tuesday. Firefighters have been training with it and equipment from the old truck is being transferred to the new rig.
The pumper was purchased from R.D. Murray Apparatus, Hamburg, for $198,057. Fiscal Affairs Officer Terrence Valentine said money for the pumper will come from three sources: the sale of the Hose 1 Fire Hall on East Fourth Street, the city's 1999 federal community block grant fund and the remainder from the city's 2000 fund balance.
Chief Edwards expects the old truck, a 1975 Ward LaFrance pumper, to be sold at auction.
