Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have joined forces to help tourists when they visit northern New England.
The three states are developing an information system for motorists that will provide weather reports, tourism information, hotel accommodations, events listings, road closings and construction slowdowns.
The states are seeking federal start-up money for the first five years, says Bill Boynton, spokesman for the New Hampshire Transportation Department.
Dick Hamilton, president of White Mountain Attractions, is on a tri-state committee working on the plan.
"We know there is a lot of parochialism, and this would go a long step to benefit the tourist," he said.
