Miss America Heather French toured areas of her home state ravaged by a recent tornado and offered words of hope and encouragement for storm victims.
"The recovery is so amazing," she said after walking through a hard-hit neighborhood on the city's southeast side Friday. "I have seen a community that has come together unlike any community that I have seen across the United States."
French, a Maysville native, presented a pneumatic nail gun to Mayor Waymond Morris and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire. The gift was provided by an Ohio company to symbolize its commitment to aiding the community.
Tornadoes earlier this month caused an estimated $70 million in damage in western Kentucky.
