VAN HITS TWO TREES, DRIVER CITED

The driver of a van was arrested on four charges, including driving while intoxicated, after his vehicle ran off Lower River Road and struck two trees shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.

Officer Anthony Nicoletti said he also charged Bruce Paeplow, 46, of Second Street, Youngstown, with not wearing a seat belt, having an open container of alcohol, and imprudent speed.

The southbound van went off the west shoulder of the road between Pletcher Road and Joseph Davis Drive and struck two trees. The van was heavily damaged, Nicoletti said.

Paeplow was taken to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight. He suffered a head laceration. A medical center official said he would be admitted and listed Paeplow in fair condition.
